We give a cluck about Cary

A Brief Status Update

August '11 1

It has been several years since my wife and I first approached the council with what we thought was a simple request. Fast forward to today and a few of the council members have shown that no facts or amount of public feedback in support of legalizing chickens will change their minds. I’ve recently heard that the town is still frequently asked about about the issue and those inquiries may still outpace feedback on the budget.

The next step for legalizing chickens appears to be using the 2011 election to chance the composition of the council. The following council members have blocked our efforts from moving this forward.

Harold Weinbrecht, Mayor
Jack Smith, District C
Don Frantz, District B
Erv Portman, At-Large (resigned July 5, 2011)

Jack Smith’s current term does not end in 2011, but the other three seats will are up for grabs. I strongly suggest contacting all of the candidates to see which best represent your interests.

It’s still very early in this election cycle, but a mayoral candidate has filed an intent to run, Michelle Muir. I had a brief discussion with her and her views related to property rights and a few other issues has earned my personal support.

Edit 2011/08/29:
CaryChickens is not endorsing candidates. We will share all factual information we can find about the views of each candidate regarding this property rights issue. It is our hope that voters will use this information to make a more informed decision.
